Below is a list of some great High School Soccer Drills that will help your players. Our soccer drills are games that involve competition and pressure, so they train your players to perform under pressure in match conditions and at game speed. Some players look good in non-pressure drills, but then can't perform under pressure at game speed. This is the approach used by the great Anson Dorrance and he is the source of the idea.
All the soccer drills below keep score to create competition and pressure and all are fast and easy to set up.
-- "Dribble Across A Square" is 100% onball and teaches control dribbling, shielding, recognition and acceleration into Open Space, composure in traffic and while under pressure, Field Vision and instinctive reactions.
-- "Dribble Around Cone & Pass Relay Race" teaches aggressive receiving (teaches players to move to the pass and to not let bad passes get by them), First Touch, one-touch control into open space, and passing while running. Every player is involved.
-- "2 Team Keep Away" teaches transitions and to maintain possession while under pressure, leadership on the field, teamwork and winning the ball.
-- "Shoulder Tackle & Strength On The Ball Game" teaches strength on the ball and also a legal shoulder tackle. Being able to challenge for the ball and strength on the ball to maintain possession while dribbling are both important.
-- "Win the 50/50 Ball or be the First Defender 1v1 Attacking and Defending" teaches players to win a 50/50 Ball and 1v1 Attacking skills and Defending skills.
-- "Small Sided Scrimmage Without A Goalie" is something to take a look at because it forces field players to learn to block shots and not overly rely on the Keeper..
